Within the past couple of weeks there was a mild disturbance on our shores. (Mild pun) The Phoenix Area has been enjoying the Dynamic Duo called "Coastal Pirates Revival" with Brad Maitland and Kenny Chesney look alike Keith Ormrod.  Are they no more?  Well, not exactly...  As it seems that Duo has decided to go their own ways.   Why is that you might ask?  Well, we got to sit down and talk with Brad Maitland and get his thoughts on this.

Eddie: I understand that you and Keith have decided to go different ways.  So how is that effecting things?

Brad:  I'm doing a little more solo type stuff, which I was originally before Keith and I started gigging and Keith wanted to go a little more full band.  He wants to a do a little more of a show like he does when he is touring.  He wants do more full band maybe in the local casinos. For me, I just wanted play acoustic duos and do some singing, just the way I have been doing for the last six years.

Eddie: So you are saying that you niche is more in that of the intimacy of a solo or duo act.

Brad Maitland Brad: I've been towards being the front man for many years and that wasn't really what I wanted.  It's just a different direction, different tastes, different Music .  There's really no hard feelings, not on my part.  We have talked on the phone since then and I hope that he go where ever he wants.  I think again, we formed this at a time where we where we needed to be.  I was still sick and didn't quite have the voice to get through a full 3 hour show.  There was no way I could do that.  So it was advantage he got to do his 3 hour show and it got him started.  That's his baby, but never really my baby.  He was the lead guy and he's going to be able to get whomever he needs.  I'm just a rhythm guitar player and you can get a lot better guitar payer then me and I kinda pushed it in that direction.  We talked a couple weeks before that, he wanted to do casinos... And that wasn't really what I wanted to do.  So I told him if he gets someone that wants to, that I'm totally OK with me.  Feel free to do that, it really won't bother me...  That's really no that direction I want to go to.

Eddie: Speaking of directions, I have been seeing more gigs pop up.  So it does look you are picking up things and it looks like you have seen to have made a connection with Jason Judd...  Whom is un-officially phasing out of " Nathan Dean & The Damn Band .   From my understanding he kind of tired of being on the road and traveling as much.   So it seems that you two have found a common connection there, as you both want to play, but you want to stay nearby... That you want to be local.

Brad Maitland leaves CPR

Brad: Yea. Seems that we are both from the mid-west and I don't know if that means anything.  It seems that we have a lot in the same views in taste with stuff.  Like we both like to do Tom Petty and stuff...  He's more into the 90's Country stuff and I love a lot of 90's so we do a lot of that.  He also likes to do some of the new stuff which I do as well.  He's just a LITTLE bit good.

Eddie: He does have a reputation of being very good at the guitar, for sure.

Brad: My biggest problem playing with him right now... I think I have had a couple of times where I was like WOW, you know being a fan.  But then I'm hey *explicit* you can also play the guitar... (Laughs).  Its good.  I like it so far.  We have been playing a lot lately. 5 jobs in the past few days.  Which is pretty hectic for me.  That's what he's used to and it won't always be that way.

So its safe to say that both Keith and Brad have certainly moved on.  There's no hard feelings and everyone is playing and having a good time.  Why play if you aren't right?  We here at Country Road Entertainment enjoyed Coastal Pirates Revival and we are sure we will continue to do so.  As for Brad going back to being solo and gigging with Jason Judd?  That's awesome as far as we are concerned.
